About Adam: Lost Memories

Adam: Lost Memories is a psychological horror game, based on a true story that happened to me when I was a child.

Fear in real life is not from zombies that want to eat your brain, or the ghost that came back from the after-life to open your fridge while you slept.

True fear is when you cry in the corner of your small room for some food and water. True fear is when you are constantly shamed, terrorized, and humiliated for years. True fear is when you can’t see the end of it.

I created this game because I wanted to show people how it feels to be a child who grew up in a family that’s falling apart.

Back then, the only thing I had was a book. When I read it again and again, it would sometimes feel like I was inside it, in a different place.
For me, that was an escape from reality.

This game builds up an unforgettable and unique atmosphere from the beginning. This is not a walking simulator, and this game does not rely on jump-scares. You play as a mentally ill person who suffers from panic disorders.

You play as me…

The Gameplay

Adam: Lost Memories plays in a first-person perspective. You are playing as Adam, the game developer. There are basic actions such as opening doors, picking up objects, throwing objects, turning valves, and running. Controlling Adams’s point of view feels fluid and works well.

Inventory management is simple. You have an inventory that lists everything you are carrying. When you need to use an item, you open up the menu, highlight the item, and use it. I’ve played a couple of horror games that could learn a thing or two from this simple concept. I’m looking at you, Visage.

Adam: Lost Memories is rather straightforward and linear. There were a few times when I got lost, especially in the final chapter. These moments can be infuriating because the answer tends to be super simple and easily overlooked. However, these moments are generally short-lived, and while frustrating, the pain is worth plowing through.

Puzzles

I have to mention the puzzles because they are a prominent part of the game. Some of them can be downright aggravating but the answer is always right there in front of you. When I sit back and look at the answers afterward, I appreciate them because I feel the puzzles are slightly unique when compared to other horror games.

Details are super important. They can be easily overlooked but tend to contain the answer to a puzzle. I’m not going to spoil anything but if you decide to play the game on your own and you get stuck, look for the minute details. The answer is right in front of you.

The Atmosphere

Adam: Lost Memories sets a high bar for the atmosphere. He nails it. There are several themes that I pick up on. These themes include industrial, sci-fi, horror, and the outdoors. The themes change as you play and they help tell Adam’s story.

All of the sounds work perfectly. They complement the theme you are in so well. The ambient sounds keep the creepy factor alive nonstop. The environmental sounds keep you guessing. The ‘creature’ sounds terrifying.

With the visuals and sounds combined, I felt immersed throughout the entire game. Adam, if you ever read this, kudos to you on a job well done. You did a great job!
