Diablo II: Resurrected includes all content from both Diablo II and its epic expansion Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. My Experience with Diablo II in Early 2000
I don’t remember my first experience. However, I do remember spending a lot of time with the game. I also remember playing online with friends. This is back in a time when dial-up internet is our gateway to online play. These are the days when I have all the time in the world.
The jump from Diablo to Diablo II is quite a large jump. In Part I, you simply descend from a cathedral in Tristram. It’s basically Tristam and a descent into Hell. In Part II, the world is open and exploration is key to moving forward. There are many areas to explore with a large cast of enemies. The exploring and fighting stay fresh because of the vast amount of content.
The graphics and audio are incredible. For the early 2000s and with a 13-inch CRT monitor, the graphics look stellar. I’m afraid of the demons and monsters I confront, especially when they pop onto the screen super fast. The audio expands on the creepy atmosphere from Diablo. Diablo II takes some audio from the original and upgrades it but also adds new audio. The music, growls, and screams all scare the shit out of me and I love it.
My Experience with Diablo II: Resurrected in 2023
The updates are amazing. The graphics look incredible, the sound is better, and I love that I can play with a controller (I am a controller guy these days). Despite the updates, the game feels and plays just like the original. Some of the bugs still exist such as opening a door but the door still appears to be closed.
Now it has been a couple of years since the release. Several patches and features have been implemented. I don’t feel like anything has changed from what I can tell except I haven’t seen any doors appear to be closed after opening them. If anything, the game continues to improve.
As I See It
I love this game. It takes me back to my late teen years. I may not be able to play as often as I like and I certainly don’t have the time to master the game and complete everything, but I am okay with that. The time that I do get to play I enjoy it very much at my own pace.
I feel that Part II is not as scary and creepy as Part I. However, the game is still creepy and the atmosphere can give you a feeling of isolation and dread. You won’t get that in the open-world areas but when you explore dungeons, you certainly will.
The part that I struggle with is that I hit a roadblock once I beat the game in nightmare mode. I have tried time and time again to farm gear that can get through Hell but I don’t seem to have any luck. I never get what I need after hours of farming. I find that this part of the game can use some improvements but that’s just for people like me who don’t have all the time in the world anymore.
